The arrival of ackee in JamaicaIn Jamaica ackee is one half of the Jamaican
national dish, Ackee and
Salt-fish. The ackee was brought to Jamaica from West
Africa in the late eighteenth century. Ackee was
imported to the Islands as a cheep source of food for the slaves brought
over from West Africa to farm the sugar crops in the Caribbean. In most
areas of the Caribbean the fruit of the ackee is not eaten. It is only
in Jamaica that Ackee is popular as a edible fruit. In recent years the
popularity of ackee and salt-fish has increased as visitors to the
Island are introduced to this dish and take home a taste for it. >
The ackee connection is located in Saint Petersburg
Florida. We offer trees for sale and other ackee
bi-products. Currently we have young ackee suckers in stock. These
suckers are eight inches tall and up.
We have been selling our ackee plants on the internet
for the last five years. In the summer, which is when ackee bears around
here we also offer ackee seeds fresh off the tree and next year we will
be offering a limited quantity of fresh ackee. We only offer mail order
service. All our ackee trees are home grown. We offer fresh well cared
for ackee suckers. |
